He was the commander of HMS Onslow, a destroyer escorting a convoy heading for Russia which came under attack from German vessels. Despite suffering wound's to the face, Captain Sherbrooke continued to direct the ships under his command until the danger had passed.
His daughter and grand daughters attended the exhibition's launch on Monday. They brought his original Victoria Cross, and full Medal collection for all to see.
